OUR MISSION
The purpose of the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame Foundation is to honor:
●Athletes for outstanding high school careers.
●Administrators, coaches, officials and community members who have made significant contributions to high school athletes.
●Athletes who have had a significant impact on their chosen field or in our society following completion of their high school careers.
OUR GOALS
1. Establish a Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame facility that will preserve the rich heritage of Nebraska high school athletics and serve as a repository for all memorabilia acquired.
2. Develop and implement programs and services consistent with the intent and purpose of the Hall of Fame.
A Little More About Us.....
Annual Awards Program.
The Hall of Fames annual awards banquet will be a Sunday in
September/October, in
Lincoln, with the start to be somewhere around noon. Ticket information is listed
elsewhere on this site. The first banquets have been well attended and
proved to be a most enjoyable trip down high schools memory lane. Contact Hall of Fame, 3214 20th Ave Kearney, NE 68845 to be
placed on a mailing list to receive information about this program.
Leadership.
The position of president of the Hall of Fame Board of Directors is held by
Wally McNaught of Eagle. Steve Shanahan of Blair is vice president, Nancy Becker
of Lincoln the secretary and Dennis Smith
of Papillion the treasurer. Dick Beechner of Kearney is executive
director.
Donations.
At this point, the organization relies solely on gifts to exist. Contributions
can be sent to Treasurer Dennis Smith, 1123 Delmar Street, Papillion, NE 68046.
List of Honors
There are a variety of honors: Hall of Fame inductees may be
athletes, coaches and/or other persons making significant contributions to high school
sports; Golden Anniversary Teams are teams who played 50 years ago, Silver
Anniversary Teams played 25 years ago, Great Moments in High School
Sports (a occurrence which was a great achievement or became famous), Ron
Gustafson Inspiraton Award to someone involved with high school sports being an
inspiration despite all odds, and the Fischer Family Award, to a family which made a
impact on high school athletics. Nomination forms are
on this website for each one of these categories.
Inductee Criteria
1. Athletes/High
School Achievement. Athletes whose primary achievements occurred during high
school. A 15-year waiting period required after graduation.
2. Athletes/Post High
School Contribution. High school athletes whose primary contributions to
athletics occurred after high school. This could include collegians and Olympians. A
15-year waiting period required after high school graduation.
3. Coaches. Must have been an employee of a Nebraska school
district coaching a sanctioned activity/sport for at least 20 years and 60 years
old if still coaching.
4.Officials.
Those registered with the Nebraska School Activities Association for at least 20 years.
6. Contributors.
Those contributing to high school sports in a capacity other than as a coach, athlete or
official. This category would include media, tournament officials, community leaders,
athletic administrator and/or any individual who made a signficant contribution
to high school sports.
