| About the Fischers |
|
| The family of Joe and Viola Fischer,
originally from the St. Edward area, includes six boys and three girls: Cletus, Ken, Rex,
Jack, Pat, Jerry, Bernadine, Joan and Donafae. As the Hall of Fame developed an idea to introduce an award that would honor families whose involvement, contributions and leadership made a significant impact on the high school sports scene, the easiest part of the process was the name. Call it the Fischer Family Award. It just had to be. While making many and varied contributions to sports, beginning with high school in the 1940s and 1950s, the Fischers exhibited strong values being carried on by subsequent generations. Theirs is one of the top stories of the 20th century in Nebraska sports. Three family members, Cletus, Ken and Pat, were inducted in the the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame in 1995, recognizing their individual contributions to high school, college and professional sports. |
