Doyle Fife, David City

Athlete, Coach. Doyle’s high school career covered all corners, a leader in every thing he tried. For years, he was regarded the best athlete in the history of his school. At Kearney State, his athlete prowess flourished. He began his coaching career at Hebron where they were state runner-up one year. At Centennial High School at Pueblo Colorado, he enjoyed a basketball record of 156-41, being state Class AAA runner-up three consecutive years. He was selected Colorado "Coach of the Year" in 1967. After taking two years-off-to earn his doctorate at Utah, he returned to UNK for -the next 26 years. It was here that he served as- assistant basketball coach for 13 years. During this time the team won 11 consecutive NAIA Districts, making the Final Four twice .
He was the first athlete selected to the UNK Hall of Fame and received the Mike Heck Award from the Nebraska Coaches Association for his contributions to the coaching profession.
