Gerry Gdowski Jr., Fremont.

1985 graduate. An outstanding three sport athlete, Gerry picked up all state honors in football and basketball in his junior and senior years and was the first sophomore picked on the Las Vegas All Star team in basketball. He competed on three Class A State Championship track teams where he earned two All-Class Gold Medals as a freshman, two more as a sophomore and four as a junior, the first athlete to accomplish this feat in nearly 50 years. He was on the National Honor Society and class valedictorian with a 4.0. He continued on to UNL where he lettered three years in football being elected as team captain his senior year. He set UNL records with the most TD's in one game (6) most total TD's in a sesson (39), completed 71 of 136 passes for 1,326 yds and 19 touchdowns his senior year and was selected All Big Eight first team quarterback in 1989. Selected as GTE Academic All American '89, All Big Eight Academic Team '88 and '89 and awarded the Chamberlin Trophy '89. He was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the eighth round. After his stint in the pros he came back to UNL as a graduate assistant, was hired at South Dakota State as quarterback coach in 1994, then became offensive coordinator in '96. His present position is quarterback coach and recruiting coordinator at New Mexico State.
