(Hoppy) McCue Arapahoe Athlete. Arapahoe Class of 1951. One of the natural all-around high school players in his time, Hoppy was the reason The Omaha World-Herald decided to start its annual high school athlete of the year award. He was the first selection. He was twice an all-stater in football, three times all-state in basketball and a legend in track: 11 first places and five gold medals and three team championships for Arapahoe. He won at least one state meet race for four consecutive years, including two as a freshman. In a teacher-coach-administrator career, Alma Superintendent McCue served high school sports as a member of the Nebraska School Activities Association Board of Control.
