| Ralph
Beechner Lincoln High Coach. Coach Beechner was a key part of one of Nebraska High School's most dominating string of sports success. Lincoln High's prowess in football from 1929-1954 established a record that coaches from other schools and sportswriters believed was not possible. During the span of twenty five years, LHS had four football coaches (W. H. Browne, Stuart Baller, Neal Mehring and Ralph Beechner). These four coaches compiled a record of 183 wins, 18 losses and 9 ties, won 14 state championships and produced 175 All State Players. Ralph Beechner and Lincoln High had a seven-year stretch where the football team won 65 games, lost seven and tied four, enjoyed three unbeaten years and had three state champions. Only once in 10 years as head coach did a Beechner team have so much as two losses. He coached championship basketball teams, too, at Jackson High in Lincoln. Lincoln High named its stadium in his honor. |
