Coach. He guided Gothenburg to state championships in football and track championships in a distinguished teaching-coaching career that had state champs in five different decades. His track teams were state champions in 1949, 1957, 1962,and 1971, famous toward the end of his career for developing a pole vault corps (The Swedes won the vault gold medal six times in an eight-year period. The track program became legendary in the state. His football team of 1945 went unbeaten, winning the state championship in a thrilling, 27-21 win over Omaha Creighton Prep.  He and fellow 1994 inductee, Wayne Binfield of Scottsbluff, were honored by the Nebraska Coaches Association with an award in their name (Dutch & Binny Award) that bestows laurels for not just winning but for being an all-around coach.  School holds a meet in his name.
